Lime slurries present many problems for water treatment plants and the other industries that use them. Lime is resistant to dissolving and quickly settles in low-velocity areas of process lines. Centrifugal and diaphragm pumps also need frequent cleaning and maintenance due to the lime caking their internals. Large particles and the slurry itself can cause excessive wear and tear on the pumps, causing significant downtime and cost in parts and labor.
Peristaltic hose pumps, like the Bredel and APEX model lines from Watson Marlow Fluid Technologies Group, eliminate these problems. The pumps are sealless and the slurry only comes into contact with the hose, which means caking isn’t a problem and the only wear part is the hose. Slurry settling is also eliminated due to the nature of peristaltic pumping.
